Hello, my name is Jarle Brosveet. I’m a Norwegian arranger, clarinettist and computer scientist currently specializing in making old compositions suitable for use by modern wind bands. In particular, I am retrieving manuscript scores from archives which are subsequently digitized and arranged according to modern standards, i.e., for full symphonic wind band or smaller groups. Levels of complexity will range from easy pieces to works requiring skilled amateur musicians or even professionals. My work in this respect started in the early 2010s, when I visited the Armed Forces Museum in Oslo and gained access to their vast collection of pre-WWII band music culled from the archives of military bands, going back more than 150 years. In this collection, a number of works existed only as manuscripts, some of which had started deteriorating. I was allowed to make photographic copies of a number of these works in order to make them playable by modern bands. Thus began the time-consuming task of computerizing and rearranging some of these works. The results were made available on my Norwegian website korpsklassikere.no. After more than ten years, time had come to expand the scope of my work, as ever more compositions are no longer in print or can only be downloaded from various websites without a full score and with annoyingly outdated instrumentation. Surely, many international classics could benefit from the same treatment that I had already given some largely unknown Norwegian compositions. The present website marks the beginning of refurbishment of some cherished and even long forgotten gems from the wind band repertoire, most of them being my personal favourites. Occasionally, compositions have been arranged anew from orchestral parts instead of relying on old band arrangements. In a few instances, even piano reductions have been used to create new arrangements. By looking at the sample pages and listening to the sound samples provided, as well as observing the grading of each piece, I hope that you will find something here that your band would wish to play.
