There are three Norwegian marches your band needs to know. The Valdres March by Johannes Hanssen and Entry of the Boyars by Johan Halvorsen have been around for a long time.

The third one, DR III’s Honorary March by Erling Mostad, was briefly available in the 1970s in a rearranged version. The original has never been available commercially until now.

Erling Mostad (1913–1996) was a clarinetist with the Trøndelag Military Band (now the Norwegian Air Force Band) and wrote only two marches, of which only one is being played today.

DR III was an infantry regiment deployed in the Levanger district of Middle Norway, having this march as its regimental march. The march was dedicated to the regiment’s chief officer, hence being designated as ‘honorary march’. The regiment was disbanded in 1995.

Due to the demanding clarinet parts, the march is not played often by non-professional wind bands. However, if grace notes, trills, and mordents can be executed fast, correctly, and strictly in time, this march is a tour de force for the band’s woodwind section, including the prominent piccolo.

The score has been edited to provide more dynamic markings and cues. Some wrong notes have been corrected.

The sound clip is played by the Norwegian Air Force Band.
